What is an online stopwatch?
An online stopwatch is a web-based timer that counts up from zero. Unlike a countdown timer, which alerts you when a fixed period ends, a stopwatch measures how long something actually takes: a workout set, a 400 m sprint, a presentation rehearsal, a chess move or a bug fix. Because it runs in the browser there is nothing to install, it works on desktop, tablet and phone, and it is always one bookmark away.
This stopwatch shows hours, minutes, seconds and hundredths of a second. The thin bar under the digits fills up once every minute, giving you a quick visual sense of the elapsed time without reading the numbers.
How to use the stopwatch
- Start — click the Start button or press Space. The digits begin counting immediately.
- Lap — click Lap or press L while the stopwatch is running. The lap time, the total elapsed time and the difference to the previous lap are added to the table. The newest lap is always at the top; the fastest lap is highlighted in green and the slowest in red.
- Stop — click the red button or press Space again to pause. Press Space once more to resume from the same value.
- Reset — click Reset or press R to return to 00:00:00.00 and clear all laps.
- Fullscreen — press F or the icon in the corner to show huge digits on a projector, TV or gym screen.
While the stopwatch is running, the elapsed time is also shown in the browser tab title, so you can keep working in another tab and still see the time at a glance.

Does the stopwatch keep running if I close the tab?+
Yes. The start time and your laps are stored locally in your browser. When you reopen the page the stopwatch continues counting from the real elapsed time. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Is there a limit on laps or on the maximum time?+
No. You can record as many laps as you like, and the display counts up to 99 hours and beyond.
Can I use it on my phone?+
Yes. The layout adapts to any screen size, the buttons are large enough for touch, and you can add the page to your home screen for one-tap access.
